We believe better decisions begin with a better understanding of the sector.
About ORECA
Africa's cultural and creative sectors are increasingly recognised as drivers of economic growth, employment, trade and cultural identity. Across the continent, the challenge is no longer recognising their importance. The challenge is creating the conditions that allow the sector to grow.
ORECA is an independent organisation working across Anglophone and Francophone Africa to support the development of the continent's cultural and creative sectors. We contribute to stronger institutions, informed public policy, effective programmes, sustainable investment and regional cooperation that strengthen the sector and expand opportunities for creative professionals and enterprises.
Our work is guided by the African Union's vision for culture and the creative economy, particularly Agenda 2063 and the African Union Plan of Action on the Cultural and Creative Industries (2024–2033). We support the implementation of these frameworks by producing knowledge, supporting institutions and contributing practical solutions that respond to Africa's development priorities.
Principles that shape our work.
Africa's creative economies are diverse. Our work starts with local realities rather than assumed solutions.
We value the knowledge held by governments, practitioners, communities, researchers and institutions and work through partnership.
Research and policy matter most when they contribute to practical change.
